One half of the voices of Explosive Pro Wrestling, and the two time WPW Commentator of the Year, Mean Dean Olsen brings WPW all the latest on the EPW scene.

Ladies and gentlemen, 10 years ago Explosive Pro Wrestling made its debut in W.A. and has set the standard for all to follow ever since. Now a decade later it’s time to show everyone just how amazing EPW really is. That’s right I’m talking about ReAwakening X!! This historic milestone event will take place at the Vasto Club in Balcatta on Saturday, November 12th and believe me you do not want to miss this show as it will be jam packed with the best wrestling action you’ll see all year. Let’s take a look at what you can look forward to.

The Blackest Hour will be in action in a six man tag match and after Rick Sanders had his hair cut off at Telethon Bash they will be taking no prisoners as they go up against Brett Foxx, Adam Banks and the returning “for one night only” Devlin Reeves. This one will see tempers flaring as the Blackest Hour have been demolishing Foxx and Banks as of late and when they fought back, Sanders and co. were not happy. With former Blackest Hour member Reeves in this match up, things have gotten personal. One thing’s for sure there’s going to be a lot of people hurting after this one.

The feud between Team Allstar and the Entourage has been heading towards it’s boiling point for quite some time now. Throughout the year William Darcy and his crew have been all over the Allstars and Brad West has had enough. It will be Brad West, Alex Kingston and The Don up against South Australia’s Rocky Menero, Hayden Zenith and Leo Pratt. After the brawls we have seen during the year between these two groups, on the biggest show of the year this one promises to be explosive.

ReAwakening X will also see the semi finals and the final of the 2011 EPW invitational tournament. In the first semi we see the 2011 Rising Star cup winner, the rookie Scotty Ryan go up against Mr. Cash Money himself Carlo Cannon. We all know how good Cannon can be, as we have seen many times, but after Ryan’s surprise win at Telethon Bash, could the rising star shock the wrestling world again?

The second semi is between two people who are no strangers to each other, Sebastian Sander and “Hollywood” Kiel Steria. We’ve seen both competitors go at it a number of times, but on this biggest stage of all, and for a huge prize, they’ll be pulling out all the stops. The winners of the two semi finals will then do battle to crown the winner of the 2011 Invitational Champion. It’s the longest running tournament in Australian wrestling and with a future opportunity for a shot at the EPW championship; all four men will have the fight of their careers ahead of them.

After spending 2011 aspiring to get EPW gold around his waist “the Shootfighter” Gavin McGavin finally got the job done at Telethon Bash when he dethroned Tyler Jacobs and became the EPW Hardcore champion. While McGavin is ecstatic about his title victory the celebration will have to be put on hold as he has one of the biggest matches of his career at ReAwakening X. Board of directors member, Brett Corvus has put the new champ up against one of EPW’s toughest Bobby Marshall. Given Marshall’s history at ReAwakening events and hardcore matches I think it’s safe to say he will do some horrendous things to the Shootfighter. McGavin fought hard to win the belt and now he’ll have to fight even harder to keep it, I wish him all the best of luck, he’ll need it.

The ever impressing EPW tag team division with have a four way battle over the Tag Team Championships at ReAwakening X and if that wasn’t enough, it’s going to be a table’s match. The current tag champs AZ Vegara and Jay Taylor will have to odds against them when they have to defend the gold against the Brothers Schmidt, the reunited Dan Moore and Chase Griffin and the newly formed team of Jamie Jurah and Jimmy Payne. A match of this caliber promises plenty of action and high impact mayhem. As we see time and time again the tag team division in EPW keeps going from strength to strength and it’ll be interesting to see how Dan and Chase will go on the grand stage, we have seen in the past how good they are as a combined force, but since reforming they still aren’t quite on the same page. Jimmy Payne and Jamie Jurah are new to the tag league but when you have two guys with the talent, skill and power as these two, it can only mean a painful night out for their opponents. When two former EPW champions and EPW tag champions join forces they have to be a big chance at winning the titles. The Brothers Schmidt on the other hand have had an interesting year but have been rather impressive in the last half of the year and who knows, it could finally be the time for the Schmidt’s to reign supreme. Meanwhile as impressive as JT and AZ have been as champs they have had a lot of outside help from the lovely Amber, but will that be enough when you are up against four other teams? I guess you’ll have to be there to see who will win and how amazing it will be.

Now the main event of ReAwakening X is humungous, we have the current EPW champion “the Golden Greek” Marcius Pitt facing off against “Shotgun” Tyler Jacobs. Now that in itself is a huge match up, but the stakes are even higher as Pitt puts his title on the line and now Jacobs has put his career on the line. Tyler Jacobs is an EPW original, throughout the entire 10 years of EPW he has been one to watch, a jack of all trades. He has won every title and done everything there is in the company and no matter who he faces off with, always puts on an amazing contest and backs down to no one! Pitt on the other hand has had a spectacular 2011, he finally won the EPW championship defeating former champ Davis Storm and later in the year he even defeated Storm and forced him into retirement. Leading into ReAwakening X the Golden Greek is looking to retire another EPW original, retain his championship and go down in history as one of the all time greats in EPW, but this is easier said than done. Tyler Jacobs is as tough as nails and three times as sharp, and any match be beats his opponents with a ferocity like no other, throw into the mix he has a chance to once again hold the EPW championship and he has to defend his career, you better believe Jacobs is going throw everything he has into this match up. I hope Marcius Pitt knows what he has got himself into. This match will be one for the history books, we will either see a new champion, one of the originals regaining his throne or we will see one of the new generation assert his dominance on the new era of EPW and sending another EPW original away for good.

It seriously doesn’t get any bigger than this, EPW ReAwakening X, Saturday November 12th at the Vasto Club in Balcatta. I want to see all of you there, tell your friends and family, and tell them to tell their friends and family. Spaceboy Dacey interview

Spaceboy Dacey has been wrestling for the Australasian Wrestling Federation since 2007 and this Saturday night faces off against Jay Law for the Young Lion's Championship. Tez caught up with Spaceboy recently to talk about his career so far.

WPW: What led you into wanting to become a wrestler and what it was like training at the AWF Dojo?
SPACEBOY: I've been watching wrestling since I was four years old and never got over it. When I’d just turned 18 I was at the King Cross Hotel and I met a guy by the name of Kieran Burns, we get to talking and he tells me he is a ring an-nouncer for a pro wrestling company. Straight away I was interested and he said I should check it out. We have been friends ever since.

A few months later I was at a WWE show in Homebush and at the end of the night I found an AWF flyer on my car. I rang the number and spoke with Greg Bownds himself and by February 2006, I started training at the AWF Dojo in Minto NSW (45 min drive from my house). The training was great, the warm ups exhausted you before you would even start training, especially on a hot summers day. Learning how to bump and wrestle in a kickboxing ring toughened me up a hell of a lot.

WPW: You made your debut against Jason Helton, who had competed in WWF and ECW. How nervous were you taking on a name such as Helton in your debut match? SPACEBOY: I debuted in spring of 2007 against Jason Helton at Cardiff Panthers near Newcastle NSW. Sure I was nervous but I didn’t really have time to worry about it. I rocked up to the show hoping to get my first shot on the show, but I wasn’t booked.

Greg (booker) approached me and asked me do u have your wrestling gear? I said yeah it’s in my car. He said good, called Helton over and said Jason meet Jason your opponent for today. I was excited, started to get nervous when Il Cognito told me Helton had wrestled the Undertaker, Taz etc. But Helton made me put my nerves aside and said I’d do fine.

I couldn’t have had a better debut opponent or match, he is a true professional. I spoke to him recently and he told me I did very well for someone’s first match ever.

WPW: For the early part of your career you competed under the name of Destroyer Dacey. What led to the moniker change?
SPACEBOY: Well during my debut match with Helton, I was wearing these wrestling shorts that a skull in the shape of a spade, so when I was announced to the ring, special guest ring announcer Max Comic (as a joke) announced me as Neo Spadeskull. The crowd must have misheard because during the match the crowd kept chanting "SPACEBOY, SPACEBOY, SPACEBOY".

After the match I returned backstage to a standing ovation from my peers (one of my fondest wrestling memories).The boys then said you are stuck with that name now! My matches after that I wrestled as Destroyer Dacey until January 2009 when I tagged with the scientist Robbie Barnes. He demanded I be called Spaceboy, and I suggested our team name of Team Astronomy. I still bring out thedestroyer persona in my matches, and my finishing move is called the space destroyer!

WPW: In October 2009 you won your first and only to date championship in the AWF, teaming with the Scientist to win the Tag Team Championships at a House Show. At the Break Out event, only one month later the team forfeited them. What was the story behind that?
SPACEBOY: We won the tag titles at the Campbelltown cube in front of 550 people in a fatal 4 way tag team match. WWE's Kizarny was on the show also. Soon after that Rob went overseas to the states to train at Booker T's school of wrestling for 3 months. The AWF wouldn’t let me defend the titles by myself, so I was stripped of the only title I’ve ever had.

WPW: You have recently earned a shot at Jay Law’s Young Lions Championship. The match is scheduled to take place at the October Wrestlefest event. Do you feel it’s now time for Spaceboy to win his first singles championship?
SPACEBOY: After four years of wrestling across the country, I definitely feel it's Spaceboy’s time to win his first singles title.

WPW: You have formed a successful Tag Team with Percy T, known as the Phenomenal Dominators in NHPW and Nerds in Space in AWF. The team is currently undefeated in three states. How did the team come about?
SPACEBOY: AWF held a show in Adelaide for the fringe festival in early 2010, and used talent from Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth. In one of my matches I was booked in a tag match with my partner being Percy T. We won our match vs. Jarrad Slate & Mr. Mortis.

After a night on the town celebrating we realised we had heaps in common. I ended up debuting in NHPW later that year thanks to Percy and my first match there was a tag team with Percy which we also won. I’ve been to every NHPW show ever since and we have become best friends. We also tagged this year for AWF in Sydney and AWF Supanova in Perth where we beat one of the best tag teams in the country TMDK.

I think we make such a great tag team because we think alike, been wrestling the same number of years, and the combination of his technical style and intelligence and my high impact style, size and strength will make it hard for anyone to end our winning streak.

WPW: Speaking of New Horizon Pro Wrestling you have been over several times for the promotion now since debuting in November 2010. Do you have any goals in NHPW as far as title runs or getting to square off against anyone in particular?
SPACEBOY: My goal is definitely to win the Art of Fighting championship currently held by Notorious 187 Homicide. I’d definitely like to wrestle Homicide one day, or any international wrestler of his caliber, I’d learn a lot from a match like that. I’ve faced the majority of the Aussie wrestlers in NHPW and AWF

WPW: At NHPW’s Battle for Honour back in February you had a brutal match with TNT, where you suffered a broken nose and continued on for another 10+ minutes. Was it difficult to continue for that length of time?
SPACEBOY: After the initial shock, seeing my own blood along with the crowd reaction fired me up for the rest of the match and I gave some pretty stiff shots back, but mainly the adrenalin and the noise of the crowd made it easier to keep going.

WPW: What have been some of your favourite matches and feuds in your career so far? SPACEBOY: My match with scientific Robert Barnes on the central coast. My match with Tama Williams at the Minto Dojo. I also had a lot of fun wrestling the tag team of Traffic and Frankie Fettuccini in Wollongong Oh, and my debut match against Jason Helton to obviously. My feuds with Rob Barnes and feuds with Tama Williams and the Multicultural Society have been the longest so I’d say those feuds.

WPW: What is Spaceboy hoping to accomplish over the next few years and do you have any plans to train and work overseas?
SPACEBOY: I’m going to wrestle and train as much as possible. I hope to win some titles, and I definitely want to work in the USA as soon as I can. I definitely want to train there also.
I hope I achieve more strength, power, and improve my wrestling skills over the next few years and make Spaceboy a common name amongst the wrestling community in Australia and even the USA

Explosive Pro Wrestling’s third annual Telethon Bash is happening this Saturday, September 17th at the Cyril Jackson Rec Centre and going by how this year has been it will be a show not to be missed. Last year we raised $3500 for Telethon, this year with your help we hope to raise even more. The show itself has a lot of great matches announced including the first round of the Invitational Tournament 2011, we will also see the return of the EPW Rising Star Cup. Over the last year we have seen many of EPW’s next generation step up and do big things, such as last month at Hell or Highwater with Marcius Pitt winning the EPW championship. With so many young up and coming breakout talents, the Rising Star Cup is a fantastic way for some of these wrestlers to help elevate themselves.

With past winners such as Dan Moore who went on to become an EPW Tag Team Champion. Sebastian Sander, who was also a tag champ and just last month had his first shot at the EPW Championship and last year’s winner 'Gorgeous' Garry Schmidt, who will get a shot at his first ever Tag Team Championship on Saturday, it shows that the Rising Star Cup leads to bigger and better things. This year’s gauntlet for the cup has a great display of talent in it such as Brett Foxx, who made his debut in last year's match, has had a great year wowing fans with his aerial offence and fast paced style. He has also formed a tag team with Adam Banks who have seen some success and look to be setting themselves as major players in the EPW tag team ranks.

Hayden Zenith will be involved in the Gauntlet match for the cup and has been one to watch in EPW this year. His affiliation with the Entourage, has seen Zenith learn all the dirty tricks in the book from 'Hollywood' Kiel Steria and manager William Darcy. With the Entourage he has been involved in a number of tag team bouts with Steria against a lot of EPW’s seasoned veterans, in this he has gained experience against many big names and will surely have an advantage over some of his less experienced opponents.

'The Real Life Risky Business' Leo Pratt is going to be looking to get his hands on the cup as well, we have seen and heard all about how he wants competition and the opportunity in EPW and now will be the perfect opportunity to make a name for himself. Always over the top and sometimes getting in the face of the wrong people. Not one lacking confidence, a victory will ensure that Pratt will be bragging, dancing around and telling everyone in ear shot how good he is.

Another competitor for the cup is Ryan Dangerfield, Mr. 'No Regrets' has been in EPW for some time now and has shown everyone he has all the guts and determination in the world to be a big name in EPW. Many times we have seen Dangerfield put his body on the line in his matches, showing no fear against even the toughest opponent. No stranger to a tough fight, I imagine Ryan Dangerfield will pull out all the stops to be the new cup holder and throw everything he has at his opponents.

It was only a few months ago we witnessed the debut of the 'Bolly Boy' Eddy Bombay, he immediately went and aligned himself with the Entourage and in his first match got a little too wrapped up in greeting fans then he did wrestling. Instead of attacking the competition in the ring Eddy was partying and dancing around high fiving every fan in sight. Whilst I think the Bolly Boy may have a bright future in EPW, he must be sure to make himself more focused at Telethon Bash if he wants a chance at the cup. At some of EPW’s house shows he has shown he is more than just a big personality and could very well pose a threat to the company yet.

Much like last year’s match in which we saw the debut of Brett Foxx, this year’s gauntlet match will see a new EPW rookie having his first appearance at a big EPW show. Scotty Ryan has been training hard at EPW’s Dynamite Factory for some time now, learning from some of EPW’s finest on how to trade holds with the best of them and at Telethon Bash he will not only get his first big match of his career but will also get a shot at the Rising Star Cup. EPW members have seen Ryan in action as he has had two bouts at house shows, one up against EPW Hardcore Champion Tyler Jacobs. The match was a little one sided, but Scotty Ryan show a hell of a lot of tenacity and just would not quit, even in the face of a brutal beating. Qualities like this and the fact not many are familiar with him makes Scotty Ryan a wildcard in this match and one to keep your eye on.

The last wrestler in the match and certainly not least is Dorian of the Blackest Hour. Being trained and guided by former EPW champion Richter and led by the maniacal Rick Sanders, Dorian has learnt everything from some of the sickest minds in EPW. With Adrian Priest and the rest of the Blackest Hour he has seen himself in a lot of high calibre match ups in EPW including the insane riot den match against Team All Star, Dorian has been main events, something none of the others in this match up have. All of this will help him in his quest for the cup, but clearly Dorian has the size and weight advantage over the rest of the competition. As seen in his matches he is as strong as they come and it takes a massive amount of force to get the big man off his feet, it will be hard for any man to get Dorian out of the running for the cup. Because of all of this you would have to say Dorian is the hot favourite to take out the Rising Star Cup for 2011.

So make sure you get yourself down to the Cyril Jackson Rec centre this Saturday to see who takes home the Rising Star Cup, also with the tag team titles on the line and we will see a new number 1 contender for the EPW title. Most of all be sure to dig deep and help raise money for Telethon. It will be a great show for a great cause, I want to see you all there. WPW Press: West Aussie Invasion

The weekend of July 23 saw a West Aussie invasion of South Australia and Queensland as talent from New Horizon Pro Wrestling (NHPW) and the Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance (SHWA) crossed borders.

NHPW’s Kabel fresh off his dominant performances at Reload took on Puro Loco at High Risk Pro Wrestling’s (HRPW) second last ever event “Winter Warfare” gaining the victory. Kabel told WPW “The crowd was good, a good size and reacted like most crowds. Just that initial "holy s**t" kinda thing when I walk out, then they pop like usual for all my big moves. It was a squash match so it was quick. The fans didn’t like what I did to one of their favorites in Puro Loco. But they all walked away with my name in their collective minds.”

SHWA’s “Mad” Mike Massive and Ebenizah J. Klaus appeared at Pro Wrestling Ignition’s (PWI) Carpe Diem, with Massive losing to Victoria’s Alexi Papadopoulos. Following his return to Perth, Massive told WPW “My match with Alexi would have to be one of the most enjoyable matches I have had in my short wrestling career. Everything went to plan quite nicely. He is a great guy to work with. As far as the crowd goes, 100 plus very loud, vocal and feral South Australians (laughs). They hated me! A very enjoyable night and I can’t wait for the next interstate trip.”

NHPW and SHWA competitor, adopted West Aussie, the Warship defeated Queensland’s Mason Childs to become the first ever PROWL Heavyweight Champion at “Night of Revolution”. WPW asked the Ship what it was like winning his first ever title. “Show was the best yet, a much larger crowd than normal, PROWL is hopefully on the rise now. The match with Mason (Childs) was very good, energetic. The crowd really loved him and really hated me. Things worked out and yeah, it’s really cool. Holding the PROWL championship means that I’m the face of the company, I'm a representation of the company as a whole, and that the company has faith in me as a pro wrestler. It’s good to get recognition.”

This edition of "The San Count" will focus on the three biggest highlights of this weekends SHWA show, Running Wild!

EPW Debuts: One of the highlights of Running Wild, and for many shows to come, is the debuts of several EPW wrestlers. Midyear Mayhem saw the SHWA debut of TMDK (Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls), and August 6 will see four more making their way to the SHWA ring. These being: the "Real Life Risky Business" Leo Pratt, Hayden Zenith, "White Flash" Ryan Dangerfield and "Gorgeous" Garry Schmidt.

Zenith and Pratt have formed a tag team named "$EXY BUSINES$" and will be competing in a gauntlet match for the SHWA Tag Team Championship trophies. Dangerfield will be going one-on-one with Elliot Forbes (w/ Ebenizah J. Klaus). And after interupting the post-show signings at Midyear Mayhem, Schmidt will be facing a former SHWA Champion, in "Mad" Mike Massive. These three matches will be very competitive, which asks the question how many of these debuting wrestlers will claim victory in their SHWA debut?

Tag Team titles: As mentioned above SHWA is crowning the first ever tag team champions! The trophies will be awarded to the winners of a 5-team gauntlet match. Thes teams are $EXY BUSINES$ (Leo Pratt and Hayden Zenith), The Steel Kings (Dan Steel and Jimmy Jamal Jenkins), two Muscle Militia teams, plus The Giant Kyote and Jake Paragon.

The way a gauntlet match works is two teams begin, once a team is eliminated (by either pinfall, submission, count out or disqualification) another team will enter. The final team left standing will be declared the winners, and the first ever holders of the SHWA Tag Team Championship trophies!

The biggest factor for all five teams is the entry in the gauntlet, as the higher the entry the more chance the team has of winning. There is no guarantee on the placement of the teams, but we can guarantee that after Saturday night there will new SHWA Tag Team Champions!

Everything else in between: Another debut at the event is a man who's come all the way from Victoria to Western Australia, and is the current PROWL Champion, that being The Warship. He will be facing the underdog of SHWA, "Firefly" Felix Young. With size, strength and experience all in Warship's favour, will Young be able to pull off a huge upset? One half of the voices of Explosive Pro Wrestling, and the two time WPW Commentator of the Year, Mean Dean Olsen brings WPW all the latest on the EPW scene.

Welcome back to another exciting edition of The Mean Scene where I rant about all things Explosive Pro Wrestling. Hell or Highwater is quickly approaching and with some of the matches announced, the tenth annual event it is lining up to be a show not to be missed. It has one of the most stacked cards of the year, with a line up of matches that could rival a ReAwakening show. Now last month, I touched on the battle for the EPW tag team titles that will happen at Hell or Highwater. This month I want to focus on the main event, the EPW title match which is shaping up to be a classic.

The match will see current champion “The Ironman” Davis Storm defend his title against Team All Star's massive powerhouse Sebastian Sander and Victorias cockiest dirtbag “Cash Money” Carlo Cannon. A three way championship match for the EPW title will headline the show and having seen all three of these guys work as of late it is going to be one hell of a tight contest. Also we must acknowledge the fact that being a three person bout, it adds the intangible “X” factor of having an odd amount of people battling for dominance. So many times through wrestling history things have been focused on two individuals in a three way match, only to have the third party be the sly one stealing the victory. We must also take a look at the individuals and what they will bring to the table on the night.

Since making his debut in EPW everyone has kept a close eye on Sebastian Sander as he had “future main eventer” written all over him. In his career so far, Sander has ploughed through the competition and quickly asserted his dominance in EPW, although only being here for a few years, no one in the company has ever taken him lightly and rightfully so. Sander has a spectacular height advantage over almost the entire roster, is also built like a tank and has the raw brute strength to go along with it. All these factors make him a danger to anyone opposing him at anytime. Having Team All Star at his side has helped him from time to time, but more often than not, it is him helping them. I believe the only factor against him in his first EPW title match is his inexperience in the main event title picture. While he has been a tag champion and battled in many high calibre match ups, he is in there with two seasoned vets who know every trick in the book and have even written a few new ones.

Carlo Cannon is an interesting wrestler, he has that “love to hate” factor, where he is such an arrogant, cocky jerk but also has the skills and talent to back it up. As we have seen a number of times in the past he can get the job done in EPW and has hung with the best and numerous occasions. His run with Slex as EPW Tag Team Champions set the Australian wrestling world on fire and sent shockwaves through EPW, one can only imagine what would happen if he were to win the EPW Championship. Now, we have seen his YouTube videos of him running around the streets of Melbourne trash talking and superkicking bystanders on the street and I think many people are quick to write Cannon off as just another young ego maniac who’s head is too big for his own good. I think this is selling him short because his wrestling ability is second to none. As much as we don’t like to admit he is one of the best in this country, although small in hight he is large in heart, has lightning quickness, an impressive arsenal of moves, technical wrestling skills and the cunning and smarts to defeat anyone opposite him in the squared circle. If victorious I’m sure we’ll see a new video saying the EPW championship is “staying in Melbourne” this would be detrimental to EPW, but it is a possibility given Carlo's track record and the fact that he has defeated Davis Storm in EPW more than once.

Speaking of Davis Storm, 2011 has been an interesting year for the Ironman, he kicked off the year as champion and has been a fighting champion as we would expect no less. But the competition in EPW is at an all time high right now with more people lining up for a title shot than I’d care to count. It was a few months ago after a gruelling match with AZ Vegara at Midyear Mayhem, that Marcius Pitt defeated Storm for the belt. This lead to a bone crunching last man standing match in which Storm regained the championship, which was followed moments later by Mikey Nicholls getting in his face wanting a title shot. We were even treated to a champion vs. champion match with Storm against hardcore champion Tyler Jacobs at Midyear Mayhem 2. These two battered and bruised each other in a fantastic contest that showed just how good the competition is in EPW in 2011. I really don’t need to talk up the ability of Davis Storm, we all know how good he is and time and time again he proves himself even when it looks as if he is done. There is no quit in him and he has proven on so many occasions that is a fine example of what it takes to be the best in EPW.

When the three of these competitors collide at Hell or Highwater, it is going to be a match that will be remembered for years regardless of the outcome. Will we see Sebastian Sander usher in a new era as a fist time EPW champion? Will we see the EPW title go back to Melbourne with Carlo Cannon, leaving EPW in a state of disarray, without a championship title thanks to an individual that very few in this state have beaten? Or will we see one of the best EPW champions retain the title that gives him reason to live and further his legacy in the history books of Explosive Pro Wrestling?

WPW Press: Airbag fails in Slate crash

Jarrad Slate was on his way home from The Dynamite Factory at around 6pm last night when he plowed his vehicle into 2 small cars. Luckily being 6”4’ his head narrowly missed the steering wheel, instead the impact pushed his chest into it causing him to lose his breath.

All occupants were shaken including an elderly lady and a learner driver and the 3 cars looked like they had been in the WWE Crush Hour Game. Slate has told WPW Press “I’ll be alright, this won’t keep Jarrad Slate down!” (via Facebook).

WPW Press is happy to report that there were no injuries and Slate will be recovered in time to appear at SHWA’s Aug 6th event "Running Wild".

WOMEN’S WRESTLING LAYING DOWN THE LAW

On July 19, 2011 South Australian Women’s promotion Glamour Championship Wrestling (GCW) posted the following announcement on Facebook. “Due to a change in management Glamour Championship Wrestling will no longer be operating. Due to some conflict of interest early on a new company will be rising up with the same talent, new management and hopefully a stronger direction for the girls involved and the fans to experience our girls Australia wide. We will be releasing this new page shortly, with hopefully some more girls to add to our already great list. Hopefully we will still be able to get the same strong support we have gotten from you. Please stay posted.”

As GCW comes to an end, the Ladies of Australian Wrestling (LAW) begins. LAW will be promoting Women’s wrestling throughout various promotions in Australia. The LAW General Manager told WPW, “The whole point of this is to give women’s wrestling a bit more exposure with hopefully exclusive companies doing LAW matches across all states.”

Last night, LAW was represented in two states. PROWL Wrestling in Queensland where Niki Nitro (NSW) defeated Baby Devine (NSW) in a “Queen of the Pride” Tournament match and Pro Wrestling Ignition (PWI) in South Australia where TJ Star (ACT) defeated Charli (VIC). Some of the other talent to be promoted under the LAW banner will include Cassie Kye (VIC), Michelle K. Hasluck (WA) and Mighty Mel (NSW).

LAW has affiliations with the above mentioned PROWL as well as the Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance (SHWA) in WA, and will be holding their debut show in late 2011.

WHAMMY! - Interview with "Gorgeous" Garry Schmidt

“Gorgeous” Garry Schmidt has been wrestling on the WA scene for over five years, mostly for Explosive Pro Wrestling. After recently returning from a US trip, Schmidt made an appearance following SHWA’s Midyear Mayhem. Tez caught up with the “Gorgeous One” to talk about his career and his upcoming SHWA debut.

WPW: Before you made your EPW debut, you had been wrestling elsewhere since March 2006. Just over one year into your career you won the Heavyweight Championship, holding the title for 175 days before losing it to NC Viper. Can you tell us a bit about your title reign?

GARRY: It was a good pat on the back at such an early stage of my career. I was the most marketable bad guy in the company at the time and was getting some great reactions with some entertaining bouts. A couple of title defences were a little disappointing during this time as I felt I didn’t step it up and I can base that purely on experience. I can also be my own worst enemy sometimes too (laughs).

The other interesting thing to note is that the match where I won the title, I had new tights made...that were a bit too loose. And at this time I also decided to wear a man-G underneath as I’ve been told it’s better for...um...stability for my…eh um...breathing downstairs. Anyways, during the match, my pants kept falling down and well...I guess you could say I made quite the "ass" of myself for so much of the match. In the end, I remember this title reign most for a great and funny match to win it and I felt I went out with a bang when I lost the title to Viper in a fun match.

WPW: During early 2008, you travelled to Canada along with Jarrad Slate to train at Lance Storm’s world famous Storm Wrestling Academy. What was the experience like training under a superstar like Storm?

GARRY: Storm was such a great trainer. His programme was top class and very fair. At first the guy was quite intimidating but then he became more of a friendlier and helpful trainer. I learned so much about ring psychology and gained such a new level of confidence. Plus he tells Dad jokes...Dad jokes RULE!

WPW: How long did you stay in Canada and are there any (non-incriminating) stories you can tell?

GARRY: I stayed in Canada for three months basically. As for stories, well...Carlo Cannon comes into play here as I was staying in the same house as him as well as a women’s wrestler called Tenille Tayla (who’s actually in WWE developmental...go girl).

I took my ice cream out of the fridge after a long day out checking out sights in Canada, went to the toilet, came out and found that my big tub of ice cream wasn't where I put it. I looked around the kitchen thinking I put it somewhere else but couldn't see it. Carlo and Tenille were watching me from the lounge room and asked "what the hell are you doing" and I explained that I could have sworn I brought out ice cream.

Anyways I then go and check in the weirdest areas like the cupboard, under the seat and even in the oven. I was going out of my mind to the point where I started to question if I even bought ice cream? I then asked Slate in the other room if I had even bought any and he said I did whilst looking at me in a funny way. I then go back into the kitchen and proceeded to go downstairs and there it was. The ice cream was downstairs. I took it, asked Carlo and Tenille and was like "wait a minute...you...the ice cream...you guys!" They lost it laughing and admitted they were moving and hiding it the whole time. In wrestling we call that a rib, to me I call that a major blonde moment (laughs).

WPW: You made your first appearance for EPW in 2008, coming out with “Bruiser” Barry, but didn’t make your in ring debut until The Great Aussie Bash in January 2009. How long had you been training with EPW before then?

GARRY: I started training November 2007 and then went to Canada for 3 months for more training from May to July in 2008. On the last week of training I actually broke my left radius bone when working with Mikey Broderick (completely my fault, by the way). So my in ring debut was delayed until I got the all clear at the start of January 2009, then it was all go from there.

WPW: At Re-Awakening 8 you received the Rookie of the Year award, as voted by the EPW fans. How did you feel being accepted by the fans, especially not being a fan favourite?

GARRY: Winning Rookie of the year was a great honour. At the end of the day, the landscape of who to cheer and boo has changed. Fans these days can love the bad guy because they do some outlandish cool things or just respect their entertainment value. I like to think that many of the fans enjoyed what I did as an entertainer and as someone who brought a new flavour into EPW.

WPW: For a couple of months in 2010, Barry and yourself had a column called “Schmidt Advice” in the WPW newsletter, where WPW readers wrote in asking for advice. Did you enjoy doing that while it lasted?

GARRY: Schmidt advice was certainly fun but was very brief. It’s hard to openly get fans to send questions in to ask two wrestlers that more than likely belittle you (laughs). I’d prefer it in a live audience sense and I think that dynamic would work as great entertainment value for the fans.

WPW: Do you have a preference between singles matches or teaming with Barry?

GARRY: I honestly prefer singles wrestling based on the fact that it’s a direct one on one situation where I’m the prime focus (as well as my opponent). I have more confidence in this in terms of ring psychology also. But don't get me wrong, I like tag wrestling still and love what I have been doing with Bruiser Barry. We have developed better as a team and I feel a greater sense of confidence in the past 10 months as how we operate as a tag team.

WPW: At one of EPW’s biggest ever shows Road to Glory 2 you won the Rising Star Cup. Do you consider this as the biggest moment of your career in EPW so far?

GARRY: To win the Rising Star Cup was an awesome achievement and the interaction with McGavin and me in the end went pretty well. To be honest, it’s not the biggest moment though. What I value greater than this was my final match with Gavin McGavin at Midday Mayhem. Sure we took each other on so many times but by the end of it we had grown so much in ourselves as performers and knew exactly how we needed to tell this story in our match. To also hear a certain EPW veteran praise the match in saying "this is the best match you have ever had" was just the icing on the cake. That match is so far my greatest highlight.

WPW: In June you travelled to the States and made a couple of appearances for Mach One Wrestling in California. What were the matches like and how did the fans take to the “Gorgeous One”?

GARRY: Mach 1 was a great place to wrestle. Many of our guys have done some matches down there and the EPW guys are well received. I was put into a triple threat match with two young guys and although the crowd was small, I certainly proved my worth and had a nice entertaining match. The other match I had was a tag team match in which one of the opponents was named Chef. Certainly a very interesting guy to say the least and we had a fun match with the promoters being very happy with my work. I certainly made a good impression down there and may return there sometime soon in a wrestling dedicated holiday. Oh and the fans, well, they hated me, so good job.

WPW: When you returned from the States the landscape of the WA scene had changed in that short time. What are your thoughts on the new alliance between EPW and SHWA?

GARRY: Talk about change, WOW! In the space of one month the WA wrestling scene evolved and I strongly believe it’s for the best. There are several promotions in WA and so many talents that want to hone their craft on a more regular basis in front of a crowd. Giving these opportunities can only help talent develop greater and for someone like me who loves to perform, I couldn’t be happier to do something I love on a more regular basis.

WPW: This past weekend you made an appearance after SHWA’s Midyear Mayhem, basically introducing yourself to the SHWA fans. Are you happy with how the appearance went?

GARRY: It was certainly a different way to debut but I was very happy with how it went because it delivered a bit of "shock" value. The clip seems to have been well received on the net as well. Do I think I could have done better? Absolutely. But hey, I’m my own worst critic. Either way, jerk face debuted, people got annoyed and things got interesting. Mission accomplished.

WPW: On August 6 at Running Wild, you will be making your SHWA debut against a former SHWA Champion in “Mad” Mike Massive. What are your thoughts going into the match?

GARRY: My thoughts are honestly excitement. Not only debuting for a new company in the ring, but to also wrestle someone which I had on top of my list of wrestlers I wanted to compete against in SHWA. I like to battle the big man wrestlers, bit of a Shawn Michaels mentality because the story is easier to tell I guess...big man...littler man. For what Massive does in the ring, he does it well and he knows who he is as a character. He doesn't do something that he can't do well and he’s got the whole "just one of the blokes" deal which is a real connection to the crowd. I think we can do some great things in the ring together and blow the roof off the place.

WPW: Who would you like to lock up with either in EPW, SHWA or from around Australia that you haven’t had the opportunity to face yet?

GARRY: AZ Vegara is at the top of my list. I have always enjoyed his work as a wrestler and how he has even bettered himself over the last year. He is always a hard worker in the ring and character wise has taught me a thing or two on how to convey your motives in the ring a lot better. I feel we would put on a great entertaining match and heck, if we had a programme and have Amber involved too, I think it could make for some entertaining matches for the EPW fans.

WPW: Where do you see yourself in the wrestling world in five years time? Do you have any specific goals?

GARRY: The toughest question at the end (laughs). In five years, I'd like to have worn the EPW tag team titles, had some great entertaining feuds and become EPW champion. Big goals I know, but I feel that I have something special to offer the wrestling world and I am always on the rise to better myself. I’d like to have wrestled interstate and created a bigger name for myself around the wrestling scene. I’d also like to go back to Canada or America and wrestle for six months dedicated and see whether or not I could get a WWE tryout, be that it as a manager or wrestler, I don't care. I was born to perform and be on stage trying to steal the show in my own unique and sometimes crazy way.

Just now, I met up with The Giant Kyote about to start the 1kg Outback Jack’s Challenge, here's what he had to say about his recent return to Perth and his WWE tryout.

Kyote, after Midyear Mayhem, how do you feel about the Perth wrestling scene?
K: Perth has created a friendly atmosphere, everyone is willing to help and the fans are still excited. I enjoy coming to Perth, so much so that I’m going to be a regular SHWA wrestler.

We've seen you on social media sites and in newspapers about your WWE tryouts. How was it?
K: It was unbelievable, I thought it was a joke at first but I went along just in case. A group of us were invited to have a generic six minute match and afterwards we got to meet John Cena. An amazing experience, Cena is so humble and modest.

Who were you been trained by?
K: I’m always learning, everywhere I go but originally by Peter Ball, Mason Childs, BJ Blade, Sweet Ass and Troy Ball
